In the fall of 2025, Ivy Hanley stepped away from the business world to run for municipal office in the position of Mayor of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Although her bid was not successful at the time, as a first-time political candidate she secured an impressive 43.3% of the vote.

Over the course of just two months of campaigning, Ivy was delighted to meet residents from every corner of the city — listening to their stories, their challenges, and the changes they want to see for St. John’s. She heard a clear message: people are ready for change from the status quo.

Ivy continues to meet with residents and remain actively engaged in the city’s growth — both as a citizen and as a business owner. The experience and skills gained during her campaign have strengthened her resolve to build a better St. John’s and will serve her well in future elections.

She stands by the belief that to create the biggest change and make the greatest impact, we must challenge the status quo. Ivy is committed to staying true to her values and ensuring she never becomes entrenched in the bureaucracy or political alliances that often stand in the way of progress.

Above all, Ivy loves St. John’s — its people, its creativity, and its resilience. She will continue to advocate for local businesses, hardworking residents, and a city that thrives as the proud capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. Her vision remains focused on a stronger, more vibrant, and more connected St. John’s — a city that works for everyone.
